Episode 3 - Learning at the Nepean Disability Expo
Expos are a great opportunity to meet people and stay ‘real’ through meeting participants, providers, parents and other carers. It's hard work. You have to stand up for long periods and always be on your best behaviour :)
Penrith was hot on that day, and we were outside under a tent, so that made it doubly tough.
Nonetheless, the stories that people tell us about their journey, the ideas they have picked up along the way, and their successes are so inspirational. The important thing is that just because a win may seem small, that doesn't make it unimportant. After all, one victory can lead to another, and it's about moving in the right direction, isn't it?
One of the things we love is that we get to meet so many people in such a short space of time. We can really get into the zone! As a service provider, we especially enjoy meeting those people who are self-managed, because we do not get to meet them as often as we like and yet they have often found ways to overcome the barriers. Their stories help us make our service better and give us ideas that we can use with other people.
